The world has been organized to address health and violence as one (One Health and One Violence). This course is the first step to consolidate the concept of "One forensic science", allowing the dissemination and improvement of knowledge of animal sciences, in the forensic field, for all those professionals who are directly or indirectly faced with criminal or civil cases where animals are involved. It also allows them to learn about new specialties that are developing exponentially due to new regulations and laws in favor of animal protection and wellbeing.

Online classes, workshop (presentation and discussion on animal forensic cases), problem-based learning by addressing criminal cases where animals are involved. Field investigation of simulated forensic cases (group activity)



Objetivos

Competencias básicas y capacidades

Learning outcomes

1. Know basic aspects related to animals and their interaction with the environment (positive and negative with the environment and humans)

2. Know the tools that can be used in a forensic investigation

3. Critically, scientifically and informedly analyze the conflicts between animals and their environment during a forensic investigation

4. Become aware of the importance of animal forensic investigation as a means of prevention and conservation of global health

5. Become aware of the importance of animal forensic sciences as another pilar in one forensic science.

6. Stimulate creativity and scientific-professional interest in this topic.

7. Learn to work in a team and develop skills in solving a case, including cultural and social aspects of the participants

Metodología

Flipped classrooms, workshops (presentation and discussion on animal forensic cases), and problem-based learning by addressing criminal cases where animals are involved. Crime Scene Investigation of simulated forensic cases with animals (group activity)

Synchronous (online) for theoretical sessions (15 h) Face to face hours (20 h)



Selección de estudiantes

In the event of a selection process, priority will be given to those students who work on topics related to animal/human life/health, criminalistics, criminology, and law. In the event of a larger number of interested parties, the second criterion will be to select those students who are in their final year of courses related to animal life/health and criminalistics.



Sistema de evaluación

Report on a simulated in-person forensic case chosen by the student (practical session)

Evaluation and qualification:
1. Test: 30%
2. Acquisition of CSI skills: 35%
3. Presentation and discussion: 35%
