This seminar will focus on the discursive construction of (im)politeness, moving beyond maxim-oriented politeness. Prof. Karen Grainger will present results of her research on several topics in (im)politeness, including its connection with intercultural communication and (in)directness in different  professional contexts. Prof. Carmen Santamaría will present  her current research in the field using a corpus of telephone interpreting compiled at UAH.
